Middlesbrough FC has signed Czech goalkeeper Radek Vitek on a permanent deal from Manchester United. The 22-year-old joins Boro to bolster the club's goalkeeping department.
Background
Vitek was born in Vsetin in the Czech Republic in October 2003. He began his career with Sigma Olomouc in his homeland before moving to Manchester United in 2020.
The 6ft 6in goalkeeper made an early impression at Old Trafford. By the 2021/22 season he was first choice for Manchester United's Under-18s, helping them win the FA Youth Cup and reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Youth League.
Senior experience
Vitek progressed through Manchester United's academy and made his senior debut in pre-season ahead of the 2023/24 season. He gained first-team experience on loan with Accrington Stanley in League Two, making 18 appearances.
In 2024/25, he joined Austrian Bundesliga side Blau-Weiß Linz on loan. He kept a clean sheet on his debut and established himself as first choice, making 26 league appearances.
Most recently, Vitek spent 2025/26 on loan at Bristol City. He was named the club's Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year — earning the nickname 'The Wall' from supporters — and made 41 appearances for the Robins.
International record
Vitek has been capped by Czech Republic at U15, U17, U19 and U20 level.
