Connor Barron has joined Middlesbrough FC on loan from Scottish side Rangers on deadline day. The 24-year-old midfielder, born in Kintore, Aberdeenshire, in August 2002, arrives with significant experience at the highest levels of Scottish and European football.
Career Path
Barron began his football journey at Kintore United before joining Aberdeen's Academy at the age of eight. He progressed through the ranks and captained Aberdeen's Under-18s.
He had loan spells with Brechin City and Kelty Hearts, helping Kelty Hearts win the Scottish League Two title. His Aberdeen senior debut came in January 2022, two weeks after signing a new contract.
Barron established himself as a first-team regular at Aberdeen and was a runner-up with them in the Scottish League Cup in 2023/24. He departed when his contract expired in June 2024, joining Rangers on a long-term deal.
European Experience
In the 2024/25 season, Barron made almost 50 appearances in all competitions for Rangers, including matches in the Champions League qualifying phase, the Europa League group phase, and the knockout stages.
The previous season brought almost 40 appearances, with Barron again featuring regularly in European competition.
International Recognition
Barron has represented Scotland at Under-16, 17, 21 and senior level. His senior debut for Scotland came in June 2025 against Liechtenstein.
His move to Middlesbrough marks the first time Barron has played outside Scotland.
