Middlesbrough FC overhauled its squad during the summer transfer window, securing multiple signings while allowing several first-team players to depart.
Among those leaving were academy graduate Hayden Hackney, who joined Premier League side Everton in early July after 14 years at the club. Hackney finished his final season on Teesside as Sky Bet Championship Player of the Year. Dael Fry moved to Birmingham City, while Dan Barlaser and Sam Silvera reunited at MK Dons. Marcus Forss, Alex Gilbert and Darragh Lenihan departed without new clubs confirmed at the time of the round-up.
New Arrivals
Jeremy Sarmiento's loan move from Brighton and Hove Albion was made permanent after conditions for the switch were met. Experienced goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin agreed terms for another season after his previous deal expired.
Midfielder Myles Peart-Harris joined on a free transfer from Oxford United in early July. Forward Kyle Joseph arrived from Hull City, the striker part of the Tigers' promotion-winning squad that beat Boro last season.
Will Lankshear was secured in a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur. Two US internationals joined countryman Aidan Morris: midfielder Sebastian Berhalter arrived from Vancouver Whitecaps, followed by Max Arfsten from Columbus Crew.
Goalkeeper Radek Vitek completed his move from Manchester United to become Boro's new number one. Defender Ashley Phillips arrived from Spurs and was unveiled before the opening day of the league season at the Riverside. Versatile defender Sam Byram joined at the end of his Leeds United contract.
Further Departures
Delano Burgzorg joined Preston North End on loan in the first week of August, while Kaly Sene moved permanently to BSC Young Boys. Fin Munroe loaned to Blackpool and Sontje Hansen to Turkish outfit Gaziantep on season-long deals. Goalkeeper Seny Dieng's contract was cancelled by mutual consent as he moved to Greek club Atromitos.
