Middlesbrough Women travel to Huddersfield Town for a WFA Cup first round tie on Sunday 25 October, kick-off 13:00. The match marks Boro's return to knockout football this season, just days after a 3-1 league defeat to the same opponents.
Forward Becky Ferguson has scored twice for manager Joe Lillie's side this season and is determined to help Boro respond. She said: "Obviously, it's a big game for us, especially after last weekend. We know we haven't had the results we've wanted over the last few games, so we're really determined to put that right on Sunday."
Learning from Recent Form
Boro have endured a difficult start to the season, but Ferguson believes there are lessons to draw from recent matches. "The biggest thing is learning from the mistakes we made and making sure we don't repeat them," she said. "We need to be more clinical, be switched on for the full 90 minutes and make sure we compete for everything."
Last week's league meeting saw Boro leading 2-1 before conceding a third goal that ended their challenge. Ferguson added: "We know what we need to improve on, and it's about going out there and showing what we're capable of."
Cup Football Motivation
Ferguson welcomes the prospect of knockout football. "There's always something special about cup football because you know what's at stake, and every game matters," she said. "It gives you that extra motivation, and there's a real excitement around knockout football."
Ferguson has previous experience of historic WFA Cup moments. Last season, she scored the first-ever televised WFA Cup first round goal from the penalty spot during Boro's 4-0 win over Cheadle. "It's a really good feeling, and something I'm proud of," Ferguson said. "You don't get many opportunities to be part of a moment like that, so it's definitely something I'll look back on and hopefully score some more."
