Middlesbrough FC's Under-18s suffered their first defeat of the 2026/27 season on Tuesday, 25 August, losing 2-1 to West Ham United in the Premier League Cup at Rockliffe.
West Ham made a swift start, taking the lead within the opening two minutes through Jude Longman. The visitors doubled their advantage two minutes before half-time when Martin Peychev scored, leaving Rob Jones' side with considerable ground to make up in the second half.
Boro mounted a comeback effort in the second half. Eamonn Tohill struck home superbly with 13 minutes remaining—his third goal in two games—but the youngsters could not force an equaliser. West Ham advanced despite Middlesbrough's push for a draw.
The defeat comes after Middlesbrough's U18s started the season with two consecutive 2-2 draws.
